Sometimes it's just not enough to fight the good fight.
Last week's Quicksilver Winter Solstice Series race was canceled after the Loudoun Country Sheriff's Office decided to second-guess our 8 years worth of VDOT permits required to run the event and declared that our current permit didn't properly describe the event. I was hoping to apply for a new VDOT permit this week to support the last race of the series this Saturday, but VDOT doesn't seem to have any sort of fast-track capability. Because I don't think I'll be able to get either a review of the existing permit or a new permit by Saturday, I've decided to cancel this weekend's race rather than trying to continue using our approved, but now undermined,
I'd like to reassure all of the local riders that we're not just running bandit races out here in northern Virginia! While we were cleaning up after the cancelation of last week's race, a more senior officer arrived at the scene, reviewed the VDOT permit, and told us that the original officer should not have closed the race down and that it should have been allowed to continue. Vindication for us, but just an hour too late.
So again, with the series conclusion at hand, I'd like to thank all the racers, officials, and supporting clubs in helping make this event happen. It didn't quite work out as expected this year, but we're hoping we can return sometime soon, someplace close by, so that we can bring you, our beloved bike racing devotee, the best possible racing experience in the MABRA region. And when we do reappear, you'll know it's us, because we'll be the ones giving out the free chocolate. Yummmm.
